Reflections: During my time at university I have improved on many of my software skills that I had previously learnt, aswell as learning how to use programmes that I didn’t have much experience with such as Adobe Flash and Dreamweaver. Also I was given the chance to work on a project for the Clothes Show Live, which meant gaining experience of working with a client aswell as working towards a deadline.

After university I hope to find a placement within graphic design which will help me to gain experience for a job later on in my career. I am also looking into studying web design as it is something I am interested in but I also think it would benefit me by broadening my career options.

Studying Graphic Communication at the University of Wolverhampton is one of the best choices I have ever made. The challenge to be able to create an experimental and creative design with my own personal stamp that can immediately catch a viewer's eye is one of the main reasons why I love this subject so much. Three years ago, I started out as a student, but I have learnt so much over these years, I can say I am definitely leaving as a designer.

I aspire to establish myself as a quality graphic designer, yet keep learning everyday and bring my new personal style to the graphic design industry. I am very excited about the challenges and experiences the world of graphic design will bring to me, where I will be able to develop my design skills, and will be ready to encounter the new skills I will learn and progress from. Most importantly, I just hope I carry on “doing what I love and loving what I do.”

Design for Multimedia

When I started university I didnt have many skills, especially involved with Adobe Flash and Photoshop but as I got more into the course my knowledge widened. Each module I undertook made me understand the software much more, and I learnt various techniques. I am very creative and can think of ideas from anything, so learning to put these ideas onto screen is a bonus!

In the future I hope to gain employment within the Design industry, hopefully situated in the West Midlands. I want to build a reputation as a successful designer and work my way up as much as possible, my main aim is to become successful, but never to get carried away!

My time a Wolverhampton university has been an enjoyable one, but one that has had its ups and downs and challenges to overcome, who ever said that degree courses these days are to easy? I came to Wolverhampton for the first time nervous and unsure of what to expect but as I made friends and university life became really enjoyable¬¬ and the experience is one I will never forget.

What does the future hold? Who knows, but what I do know is that the skills and the ways I now approach and execute my work has improved massively during my time spent here and this will stand me in good stead for my introduction into the world of professional designing. My aim to put it simply is to start working in industry doing what I have studied for and put so many hours into.

I feel I have learnt a huge amount during my time at Wolverhampton. I have discovered that my passion lies with ‘Editorial Design’ and ‘Corporate Identity/Branding’. My confidence has grown significantly and I now feel ready to become part of a design team in a working environment. I have made many close friends during my time here and I hope they will remain friends once we leave.

My main goal for the future is to pursue a career within Graphic Design and build a life which makes me and my family happy. I hear too many people complaining about their jobs, my goal is to try and avoid being one of those people. I want to continue to learn and develop as a professional designer which makes me excited about the future.

My time as a student has been exciting, sometimes frustrating, challenging and I have learned a lot! I’ve met many interesting people, friends and have listened to many competent lecturers. Now I feel fortunate of what I have been taught and can’t wait to find out a lot more in a real job!
My dreams and aims as a graphic designer is to work in a creative team/studio experimenting techniques and develop visual art. Work with print, patterns, illustrations and contrasts. A dream job for me, would be to work with the fashion industry and promote fashion designers and their brands. I would also like to create creative packaging or editorial. I like the thought of starting my own business one day. To create work that matters and has a meaning. To say something important with my design that’s moral and ethical.

Since leaving my course at Newcastle College, I felt that I needed to enhance my idea making skills and use of typography. Wolverhampton University allowed me to do this and I gained knowledge in a vast majority of areas that I hadn’t explored before, especially within Editorial Design.

My aim for the future is to work in an area that focuses on visual identity. I love to tweak work, looking for the best possible executions, layout or balance of elements. I feel that this area would allow me to fulfill my ambitions.

From my first year at the University of Wolverhampton I have grown tremendously, the quality of my work has improved substantially and being at the university has enabled me to learn skills I perhaps wouldn’t have other wise. Programs like QuarkXpress and Flash were pieces of software I had no previous knowledge of, however being at the university has broadened the amount of software knowledge I have at current, but of course there is always room to improve and learn more. Graphic Communication has also allowed me to realise my strengths, which lies particularly within graphic and editorial design. Initially I would like to work for a well-established graphics company that works on a broad range of projects, media and encourages innovation and variation within design. Ideally within 5-10 years I would like to see myself working as an internationally recognised freelance designer with a client list to boast and a walk in wardrobe that’s more ridiculous than Mariah Carey’s.

My time studying Visual Communications has been enjoyable and very beneficial, as I have broadened my knowledge, skills and techniques within graphic design. It has been an inspiring experience and has really helped me on my way to finding a career path. Learning new software has made my work successful and given me an advantage for future prospects.

When I have finished my degree I would like to go into Editorial design as I feel that my skills are suited to this particular area. I have a personal interest in magazines, and designing publications would be a great way to make the most of my assets. I would love to work in a setting where I can develop my skills further and be creative in my design approaches.

I enjoy having a variety of briefs to work on, especially if it means new challenges being presented. When working I always strive to come up with original and creative ideas but keep communication my central concern. I try to remain open and adaptable to different styles in order to produce a solution which is suitable for the brief.

I will now continue to endeavour to become an exceptional all-round graphic designer. With so much to learn in graphic design, I find that I'm continuously progressing in new directions, each one just as exciting as the last.

Design for Multimedia

I have to say that I enjoyed studying Design for Multimedia since it helped me create a more diverse point of view on how things work visually. I believe that there is a lot more knowledge to take in through future experimentation on the field.

I wish to extend the nature of my work in more experimental ways in terms of printing mostly. I hope to find out more about traditional ways of working in graphic design instead of digital.

I have really enjoyed my time studying Graphic Communications here, it has taught me many new techniques and software skills, as well as knowledge on design/designers. Most of all I have gained some great friendships and support for the future.

My personal goals for the future are to get a degree in PGCE Post-Compulsory and then move on to eventually becoming a tutor of Graphics at a high art and design college. At the same time also working at graphic design companies on placements during the breaks.

In completing this course I have increased my knowledge and developed skills more than I ever thought that I would. I have enjoyed it. I have been able to develop ideas from a minimum of initial information. I now know that I can work to specific criteria within deadline.

I hope to gain employment in the design/multi-media area to use my degree and develop further skills in line with advancing technology.

While studying graphic communication I have been able to gather an insight into different mediums and techniques that can be used to achieve powerful graphic design. The course has allowed me to get a full understanding of different areas of graphic design and allowed me to express varied ways of achieving innovative work.

Looking to the future I intend on using the knowledge and skills I have gained and putting them into practice. While working with Rob James we hope to make Paperplane Graphics into a strong design company, where we can enjoy producing work for our future clients.

I didn’t know how much design could be taught, and I have sure learned a lot in my time here. Alongside some long projects, we’ve also had the chance to be able to work for real clients, and this has given me such a boost in my enthusiasm and my ways of communicating. Thus, the live briefs have to be my favourite experience of being here. One person’s passion is my own passion.

I want to eventually be running my own design business. I think I’d make a fantastic manager – organising others, teaching them the tricks of the trade. The whole experience is to learn yourself, then pass onto others. I want to gain, through different clients, every job being different, that for me is a real buzz.
Although design is an ever changing thing, I feel this will be my natural progression through life.

I have genuinely enjoyed my time spent at the University of Wolverhampton. I have learnt new skills and met both new friends and contacts. I have pushed myself each year to keep on track with good grades and produce work that will hopefully help see me stand out from the crowd.

In the future I want to make it big, I am confident that within the next year or so, you WILL be able to own a piece of my work or see it used in a companies branding and identity. I am constantly looking at where my next step will take me and am determined to make a name for myself in the world of Graphic Design.

I have enjoyed my time at Wolverhampton University. It has been a big learning curve for me, knowing the software’s, how to layout, communication, working with other, time keeping. I had only used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator before coming here, and have now learnt how to use a lot more software’s, which I know will help me in the future.

In the future I hope to build myself up starting from a junior design working my way to an art director. I also hope to do freelance on the side and eventually have my own business or be a partner.

My time at Wolverhampton University has been a fantastic experience and I feel it has provided me with the skills and the creativeness to help me move on and progress up the graphics ladder. I have always tried to be experimental and work across all possible medias and hope that these skills will serve me well in my future career.

I am determined that I have the ability and the ideas to make it to the very top of the graphics world. I am confident that my approach, hard work and imagination will get my work published leading to more exposure and hopefully internationally recognised clients. I feel I have the ability to adapt to any specific brief giving the client an extremely wide range of possibilities. I hope to follow in the footsteps of the designers who have inspired me over the years and create truly iconic and well recognised work.

My time at university has been eventful. I have made some really good friends and the course I was doing was enjoyable (at times). I really do feel that I have grown as a designer and have done so by my lecturers helping me with my decisions but mostly due to the help of my friends.

Now this is a tough one to answer, I do wish to carry on with design but with this current economical climate it maybe hard for me to find work. So my aspirations after university are as follows… just chill out for the summer then try to find work and see where it is that this road takes me.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at University and have learnt a great deal about myself, and who I want to be. It was a hard choice for me as I had a young daughter when I started and I knew I would have to be very committed in order to do well, but I didn’t want to give up on my dream. I have not regretted one moment of it, I have met some fantastic people, learnt a great deal and have had some fantastic teachers.

My dream job would be in editorial or advertising…maybe working for a company such as The Why Not Associates or Johnson Banks! But without dreaming too much my aspiration is to succeed in what I do, to have a fresh challenge and to be happy!

I have loved studying Graphics Design at Wolverhampton! It’s allowed me to develop my individual style and recognize my strengths as a designer. Group crits with tutors and students has been very constructive making me more design aware and has given me great communication skills. It’s been a brilliant learning experience.

My strengths being in editorial design, I would love to work for a design or fashion magazine in the near future then work my way up. I aim to be always working in design through freelancing, as I cannot ever see myself being creatively inactive. I want to be recognized as a successful designer as I believe I have the ability to be one.

My aspirations would be to further my knowledge in graphic design, especially in Editorial design as this is one key area that I wish to specialize in, this is because my strengths lye more in Editorial designing.

In more then most cases leaving is always a sad time, and this is no exception. The three years I have spent attending Wolverhampton University will be some of my best experiences in life! From gaining invaluable knowledge (securing a place in my chosen career), to the friends I have made. Thank you.

I will be setting my aim high, in search of a position I can develop and progress in. I am looking forward to all the new experiences, briefs and people, I will come across on my career path. Another key objective for me is to develop my own personal skills, branching out in to other disciplines; Illustration, Photography and Film.

Two years ago, I transferred here to University of Wolverhampton from University of Nicosia. Initially every single thing looked so hard for me but now I do not want to leave Wolverhampton. I started to like packaging design when I started my education here. I learned how I can use effectively typography.

My future goals are to be working with these areas: film industry, magazine editorial and graphic consultancy. Before all of these I want to finish Design for Multimedia department in my country (Cyprus). I love everything about Graphic so it does not matter what I am working with. At least it has to be about graphic, however my favourite is film industry.
