IT Self Help

Non-educational visitors can connect their own computer or other device to our guest wireless network, UoWGuest. This network provides access to the Internet only - not to University systems. Visitors need to have a temporary account set up for them by a member of staff at the University using the Amigopod system. This will usually be set up for a specified period of time, such as for the duration of a Conference.

UoWguest is available in all teaching buildings which offer wireless. It is also available in some Residences. However, in the Residences UoWguest will not appear on the list of available networks (SSIDs). On a Windows PC, you can download and run this utility which will set the system up to use the hidden network. On a Macintosh, you can join it by selecting "Join other network" from the Airport menu, then entering UoWguest for the SSID and selecting "No security".

Visitors from other educational institutions should use the JANET Roaming Service, and use their own University username and password to access the Internet here. This is not currently available in Residences, though it is planned for the future.

University staff requiring help or information about setting up visitor accounts should contact the IT Service Desk on ext. 2000 or 01902-322000.
