Although there is no requirement for a Personnel representative to be involved at every interview, line managers may wish to take advantage of the team's experience in this area and include Personnel at particular stages throughout the recruitment process.

The Personnel team can provide help and guidance at any stage of the recruitment process, including:

  • the preparation of job descriptions and person specifications
  • advice on where/when to place recruitment advertisements
  • advice on short-listing or full participation at short-listing meeting
  • advising on and agreeing the appropriate selection methods to be used (e.g. presentations, work-based tests etc.)
  • advising on and agreeing appropriate interview panel composition
  • determining appropriate questions to be asked at interview, prior to interviews taking place
  • full participation on interview panels
  • attending or available to advise the panel on a fair and justifiable decision once candidates have been seen
  • salary recommendations
  • any individual issues concerning particular candidates (e.g. work permit applications, breaks in employment, references etc.)
  • giving constructive feedback to the panel
Who to Contact

Each School and Department has a dedicated Personnel Services Manager (PSM), supported by a Personnel Co-ordinator. They are your main points of contact and are supported by the general recruitment team. All contact details are given here.
