THREE COMPONENTS
The Dictionary of Traded Goods & Commodities is to be published as a package containing three elements:
For other forms of dissemination please go to Results.
The Dictionary Package will comprise about 10 000 articles on individual commodities, on production techniques and on concepts such as colour and shop, relevant to the early modern internal trade and consumption, and connected to others with hypertext links. The user can move between related articles, or browse the Dictionary in the conventional alphabetical format.
The articles will vary in length depending on the amount of information available on them. Some entries might run to a few lines, while others are several hundred words in length. Wherever possible definitions of commodity terms include discussions about value, supply networks, innovation, and cultural meanings attached to items during the period of study. The articles concerning commodities have links to characteristics (as revealed by our sources), the relevant source databases, other references and variant spellings. |
